Stephanie Opusunju, MD, or Dr. O, as she is fondly called by her patients, is an experienced family medicine provider at Elam Health and Wellness located in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Opusunju is a first-generation Nigerian-American. Originally from Brooklyn, New York, she relocated to Texas with her family in high school and considers herself a proud Texan. Dr. Opusunju is eager to see new and returning patients at the office in Dallas, Texas.
Dr. Opusunju obtained her Bachelors in biology from Texas Woman’s University and then completed a year of neuroscience research at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. It was during this time that Dr. Opusunju’s passion for medicine and patient care flourished.
Her unique journey led her to The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas, where she earned her Medical Degree in June 2016. While there, she dedicated part of her medical education to studying the link between socioeconomic issues and public health outcomes by participating in the public health track.
Initially, Dr. Opusunju matched into and completed a year of psychiatry but decided to switch to internal medicine as it was more of her calling. She then completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Methodist Health System in July 2020.
At Elam Health and Wellness, Dr. Opusunju treats a variety of different conditions including chronic disease management, acute illnesses, weight loss and pain management. Additionally, as a certified life coach, she compassionately guides patients through any mental health concerns.
Dr. Opusunju has a contagious smile and an energetic personality. She lives in Dallas, and in her free time, she loves to dance, read, attend church, blog, and cook. When asked about the impact she wants to leave, Dr. Opusunju says, “I want my patients, staff, and everyone I interact with to leave my presence feeling a little more loved.”
